CI-v4 EQp1:Minimum indoor air quality performance

Dedicated Central OA Unit

Our project is a Commercial Interior in two floors of an existing tower. The floors are served by 4-pipe fan coils. Currently, we do not have enough OA to satisfy ASHRAE 62.1-2010 and we will need to add that. Due to space and ceiling constraint, we can not run new ducts to distribute the OA into the Fan Coils.

Can we supply the required OA to multiple locations above the ceiling and make the plenum above the ceiling as the mixing boxes into each fan coils, OR they have to physically be connected at the fan coil return plenum?

Does this qualify us for Case 2 where we are allowed to only provide 10CFM per person which equates to 1,000CFM for the approximately 100 people; which we are now delivering more than that.

Hi Jalal. On the User's Manual for 62.1-2010 there are some diagram showing how plenum systems with separate outdoor air inlets should be design, the OA inlet and the F&C don't have to be physically connected but they are required to be quite close. You can go for Case 2 if you provide a narrative indicating is not possible to comply with 62.1 OA requirements due to constrains of the existing ventilation system.
