We have done just what you indicate. We build an addition a few years ago (under v2.2), and I acted as the CxA for Fundamental and Enhanced. As a Principal, I was independent from the group designing, and was even in a different office. As far as I know, if they have the required experience, the owner can always be the CxA.

Hi Scott- thanks for the feedback. I just wanted to make sure being part of the design firm wouldn't get in the way.
