CSR / ESG Rating

Hello! Does anyone know of any general contractors who produce a CSR? Is anyone aware of any general contractors who have an ESG rating? If so, what company is being utilized (i.e. EcoVadis) to get the ESG rating?

HI, Teresa - I've been looking into this as well and have seen Swinerton and McKinstry (MEP) CSR or similar reports and we have Community Impact and DEI reports this year, but I haven't seen any GCs yet with a proper ESG rating. Would love to identify one! Would also love to hear back if you find any or decide to pursue a formal ESG rating at Miron.

We have been looking in this as well. So would have interst in learning of best practices applicable to the GC industry.

Happy Monday everyone! Just some food for thought - there is a big difference between a Construction Manager and a General Contractor, especially when it comes to contractual language. How do you separate your CSR and ESG scores as a CM (just the business side) vs. a GC (also includes construction operations)? Do you take this a step further and break down the various market segments (i.e. commercial, industrial, K-12/education, etc.)?

This is a great point, but at the same time many construction managers also operate as a GC, subcontractor or even in separate market sectors (transportation, industrial, mining, renewables, etc.). We (Sundt Construction) are one of those mixed bag entities and are in the process of formulating a solution that works for entire business. Obviously the language in a CMAR or even Design-Build environment give us much more representation and influence on a project, but what I love about this movement to CSR/ESG is that it moves the decision making back to the business and what we are doing to govern ourselves. To answer your question more directly, I think in order to separate we would first have to find companies that only operate under one delivery methodology and then move to companies that only work under 1 market sector which I think would be the minority, but great for data mining as to what industries are leading vs. lagging. I can tell you honestly that companies working under fortune 100 companies that are driving this space right now are further along than most of the small business and single location model industry companies. Hope this helps.

Webcor uses EcoVadis and received a rating for 2021, and plans to use it again for 2022. We have also published a CSR framework on our company website.
