My project has been identified according to an ESA phase 2 - as a brownfield site.
As is required by the ESA, The project team has conducted samples for soil and groundwater gas. The project has tested positive for contamination and requires remediation by the relevant regional authority.
The contamination is located on the project site but does not fall in the design LEED boundary.
We would like to make sure, that remediation would counts toward credit compliance.
Your quick response would be appreciated,
Thank in advance,
Karin

Hi Karin,
The intent of this credit is to direct development to contaminated sites and perform the needed remediation. That is still happening if the contamination / brownfield designation applies to the site overall, even if the contaminated soils aren't specifically within the LEED boundary. So it does qualify for the credit.
(Within reason, of course - I'm assuming your question refers to a single site with one or maybe two buildings, where the LEED boundary is smaller than the whole area that was assessed by the Phase 2 ESA. Something like a big campus with contamination in one area and a LEED project in another would be a different story.)
