We have a fairly complicated building project that includes two areas that are unclear to me as to whether they should be included in the gross floor area calculation:
1. Crawl space - we have a large crawl space occupying most of the basement level. A small portion of the basement is partitioned off as a mechanical equipment room. The rest is left as unfinished open crawl space. Would this entire floor be included in the GSF even though it is an unfinished below-grade crawl space (vide sanitaire)?
2. Interior vegetated courtyards - the project features multiple interior courtyards which are open to the sky. Should these spaces be included in the GSF?

Michael, I recommend reporting the gross square footage areas according to your local building code requirements for consistency. If your jurisdiction considers crawl spaces and/or interior vegetated courtyards as gross floor area, you should report that in PIf2 also.
