Dear All,
we’re currently involved in the LEED certification of a new development, endowed with cooling towers. In what relates with water metering credit, we have the following doubt:
- according to Indoor Water Use Reduction pre-requisite credit language, cooling towers must be equipped with makeup water meters;
- according to Water Metering credit language, compliance with credit requirements, implies submetering of at least two water subsystems. Process water (at least 80% of process water use) is one of the eligible subsystems.
In this particular project, cooling tower’s water use will be metered (it is a pre-requisite) and cooling towers are estimated to weight more than 80% of total process water use. Given this, can we count cooling towers as one water subsystem for water metering compliance purposes?

I asked GBCI this before, they said no.
