Hi,
I am a bit confused with the credit requirements for achieving 1 point.
We have already the make-up water parameters and we have calculated the cycles of concentration for each one (lowest value is 1).
Do we just need to set the cooling tower to supply make-up water every cycle? is it required to have a minimum number of cycles for 1 point?
In case the fewest calculated cycle is less than 1, would it be accepted to supply make-up water every cycle?

If that is the case then yes, it sounds like you'd earn one point for that strategy. The minimum threshold of 10 cycles applies to the second point.

Having no lower limit for the cycles to earn 1 point implies that we will earn that point as long as we have a cooling tower, no matter what the parameter concentrations are (in any case it will be below 10-if not above). If the minimum number of cycles turns out to be 1, the tower will function as a once-through system, which is not encouraged by LEED. Will that earn a point? That sounds weird to me. Maybe I'm missing a point??

I also don't understand the requirement of imposing an upper limit on the number of cycles for 1 point. It would make more sense to have a lower limit or a range. For the 1 point option having an upper limit of 10 cycles suggests that you get rewarded for having fewer number of cycles, which goes against the intent of the credit of conserving water. What is the intent of the 1 point option? Is it to encourage testing of the parameters in the make-up water even if you aren't able to increase the number of cycles?

@ Damienne - The upper limit for 1 point is just the threshold at which you move to 2 points. 1 point = you are doing as many COC as you can w/o reaching the maximum values in Table 1. If you have really bad water, this could be very few COC. If you have super clean water, this could be more than 10. Once you get to 10, you move from 1 point to 2 points. For most sites, to get to 10 will require you to treat the water water to allow you to increase your COC without first exceeding at leaste one of the parameters on Table 1 maximum allowances.
