CI-v4 MRc6:Construction and demolition waste management

Construction Waste Recycling Plant distance from Site

Hello

We are currently working in a location where there aren't any gypsum recycling plant within a 200 mi radius. We have been looking

for information that specifies the max distance allowed but we have only found info from third party sources. I want to confirm if

the radius for LEED V4 for transporting construction waste to the closest recycling plant is 500 mi as some sources say.

Hi Ana. I know it has been quite some time since you posted this question, and I apologize for the delay. This is a great question and a great consideration.  I have not seen any references to maximum travel distance of diverted materials within LEED, as long as the material claimed to be diverted are actually diverted and can be verified with supporting documentation.  As you likely know, it is important to minimize impacts of transportation energy and so to consider a similar radius to materials being selected and used for the project, we should also consider the radius of sending materials away from the project.  I can see this possibly being included in future versions of LEED to keep industry moving forward, but unless you have a review comment specific to this component that needs to be addressed, I have not found travel distance of diverted materials to be a negative impact on credit compliance.  Of course, impacts to project budget would be another issue.
