Connected Functionality Criteria

Can anyone give me a better understanding of the "Connected Functionality Criteria" requirement? In my understanding, the EVSE needs to be capable of responding/communicating with the local utility through a demand response program or a similar connectivity feature, and/or report energy use. Please correct my understanding, this is my first time creating documentation for this credit!

In the project specs, it says the EVSE has:
1. LAN Communications: 802.11b/g/n or 10/100/1000 Base T Ethernet.
2. Capability for remote configuration and reporting.

Does this help meet the requirement?

Hi Rebecca,
LEED references the EPA Energy Star Criteria/Standard under the credit which has more info on this topic:
"EPA ENERGY STAR Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Key Product Criteria – Connected Functionality" https://www.energystar.gov/products/evse_key_product_criteria

We have typically specified Energy Star certified EVSE to meet the credit requirements to make sure all required criteria are met.

Hi Rebecca and Umesh,  I would like to add a comment to this topic, regarding Energy Star certified EVSE. According to the link provided, the Connected Functionality criteria is optional for Energy Star certified EVSE, which means that a certified EVSE not necessarily complies with this requirement.  Therefore, to make sure a certified EVSE complies with this criteria, it shall be identified as Energy Star with ‘Connected’ functionality.
