EBOM-2009 WEp1:Minimum Indoor Plumbing Fixture and Fitting Efficiency

Compliance with WEp1 building that was constructed after 2007 bu

Hi, We have a project that is an existing building that was constructed in 2007, but it has water closets with greater consumption than 1.6 gpf (6lpf). The prerequisite says that the project comply if the building was constructed after 1994 but it is evident that water closet don’t comply with the baseline requirements. Must the building change all water closets for water closets that comply at minimum with 1.6 gpf or it is possible to change just a part of the water closets if we guarantee 10% total potable water saving in aggregated? Anyone has had experience with that? Thank you so much,

Compliance is based on calculations that take all fixture types at your project into account (e.g. toilets, urinals, showers, faucets, etc). You aren't required to replace any particular fixture. So, depending on the flush/flow rate for other fixtures installed at your building, there may be cheaper options (like swapping out faucet aerators) that can help you reach the prerequisite threshold. Or like you said, if replacing toilets is the only way to comply with the prerequisite, you are allowed to replace only a portion of them.
