Pilot-Credits EQpc78:Design for active occupants

Compliance?

Could you clarify why a comment on this forum is required even though we have no unresolved questions? We previously received clarification from USGBC that multiple stairs can be used to achieve the credit.

I, too, do not have any questions about the credit. I am also curious about the requirement of participation in this forum. I think the credit is a fantastic way to ensure that employees can get exercise at work.

In my experience on other pilot credits, the USGBC wants to see project teams sharing and discussing how they are working with the credit requirements, problems they are having implementing the credit language, documentation issues, etc. This forum is part of their feedback loop and they want to hear from you and your team.

My project was lucky enough to have compliance with this credit be almost effortless. It was simply part of the way the project was designed. I don't have any questions at the moment, but am enjoying reading through the other comments.

I also have a project that complies with all requirements except the posting on this forum. By making that a requirement of achieving the point, it has given me an opportunity to review comments and developments related this and another pilot credit.

Like Sara, my project is lucky enough to comply without effort since it is a recreation center. I don't have any comments or questions for this credit, but have found the leeduser website to be very helpful on many other topics.

My project (a family Rec Center) also complies with requirements of this pilot credit. The central staircase and daylit areas throughout were a big part of the design for this project. Like many of you, this credit was denied because we did not participate in this forum. However, we had no questions as we easily met the credit requirements. My question now is, did you all resubmit the credit, and were you awarded the ID point? We submitted this point with the final construction review and so do not have an opportunity to clarify.

Our project is an existing building and easily complies with the requirements. This is often the case with other historic projects. I do think this is a great credit and helps support maintaining an existing buildings original configuration even if the existing stairs take up substantial floor space as is the case for the project I am documenting right now

I also am coming across this forum participation requirement in our credit review comments. Some good questions are coming up below, but like many of you, design for active occupants was intrinsically linked to our projects' design, and the credit is fortunately written broadly enough to capture the aspects of the project that we had incorporated. Looking forward to see if/how this pilot credit gets incorporated into the rating system, and also interested in the other forums pilot credit activity & questions. I am especially interested in how universal design gets addressed and incorporated, either in this credit or in an entirely separate credit...

Our project was able to comply to the requirements of this credit without too many issues since a lot of the requirements were already incorporated into our design approach. The forum has been a useful tool as I have been able to find answers to all of the questions that I have had regarding this credit.

Project compliance with this credit was very straightforward. From the beginning of concept design, the client wanted a grand interconnecting staircase. Transparency and connectivity between floors were important functions of the building. In regards, to feature 9 about use of inviting sensory stimulation, would it be possible to include the quality of the stair finishes? I realize it’s fairly subjective however changing the materiality to draw attention to the stair or maintaining the same quality such that the stair feels integral to the space may help promote their use.

If thought about in the beginning compliance is pretty straightforward. Our clients workflow provided the design solution. The team only decided to pursue the credit later in the process in looking for some other innovative things that could make this project stand out from your run of the mill gold or silver office building.

Our team also found this credit very appropriate to our project type (a recreation and wellness center) therefore, its implementation was fairly straightforward. By requiring participation in the forum, it allows our team to see what other project types ran up against while trying to achieve this credit. This will be helpful for us on future projects that may not have a primary focus on fitness.
