Hi all! We received feedback from the LEED review team on Cx that I had not seen before. We have a Core & Shell building where the exisitng Domestic Hot Water heater was retained. There was no work done to the water heater itself. The CxA did not include this in their report because the LEED language states: "Commissioning process activities must be completed for the following energy-related systems, at a minimum (if they are installed as part of the core and shell project)" - DHW was not installed as part of the project. In your opinions, do we still need to test and confirm operation of this unit?

Hi Brian
I don`t think you need to include this DHW system in the commissioning scope, as you explained it is existing. Maybe this has to be better described.
Moreover I suggest you recheck the PI Form concerning the detailed scope of work; maybe there is an inconsistance or a difference between this and the Cx template.
Regards.

It is my understanding that MEP systems serving the CS project must be included within the commissioing scope of work, regardless if they are existing or installed as part of the CS scope of work.
In my opinion, the reference guide could be written better since it seems to assume nothing exists prior to the CS work.
You could push back on GBCI, because you are technically correct "DHW is not installed as part of the CS project". When pushing back on GBCI due to incorrect (or non-explicit) language of the reference guide, i have never won this argument. My guess is that GBCI will require the team to demonstrate the existing DHW was included in the commissioning.
Apologies that i do not know a way out of this one.
good luck.

Thanks David and Patrick. Sure enough the CS scope of work under PI incorrectly listed DHW, so we unchecked that box and wrote a note. Will keep you posted.
