Coffee chats with our contractor friends

I really enjoyed last week's "Integrative Solutions Jam - Getting Better Materials Into Projects".  Thanks BuildingGreen for setting that up.  One of the great parts were the break out groups, where 4 of us could dig into various topics more deeply.

We got into a conversation about circularity and material re-use and Laura Soma with Gly Construction had some really great info and tips.  Contractors have a totally different view of the building process obviously, we know that, but if we can tap into that knowledge, can we all be better Architects, create better document sets and end up with better buildings?  And can contractors learn something by talking to all of us, or are we just too totally annoying?

This all made me think that maybe we need to set up some meet ups where we can ask contractors questions, bounce ideas off, and get a better understanding of how to meet ALL of our end goals.  We could struture them around some basic topics - circularity - what works, what doesn't work, would be a great place to start.

Maybe we could set up some "spend some time with (fill in the blank)".  Three contractors, or Mechanical engineers, or structural engineers, or spec writers (HA-what fun!) could do a quick intro and then we could start asking questions, discussing back and forth.

Maybe we would all learn a little something.

Anybody in?

Hi Anne, So funny how certain topics are "in the air" - we were just having a similar conversation about contractor coordination in our office. You can count us in! although do you think it needs to be regionally or sector-specific? Katie

I'm interested in this. I wasn't able to attend last week, but the mix of disciplines is what I liked most about last year's summit format. Maybe the biggest "aha moments" can be shared in posts here for everyone's benefit. I think some topics might benefit from regional or sector specificity, but plenty of others might not. I am so disappointed to miss that chat! Please please please lets have many more of these convos with the build side (what do we need to know to get more sustainable products into the project…without being sneaky) F

Great idea, and I like the idea of expanding the format to different perspectives, including offering up the architects' perspective for a session (assuming anyone cares, or hasn't heard enough of it)

Hello: Given the strong interest in circularity in this thread, I thought that it would be good to draw your attention to this new (at least new to me) ISO standard for product circularity. https://pcds.lu/pcds-system/ I would appreciate peoples thoughts on this. Thanks,
Dave

Ok everyone, I will work with Candace to get this set up.  Watch this space for more info on when this will happen. Contractors in Cars Getting Coffee - Ha!  good one David.  I just re-watched the Barack Obama episodes earlier this week.  Good stuff.  If only I could afford a 1963 Corvette Stingray, all would be well in this world - I would host all of my meetings from the car then. And  Laura, Jennifer, Erin and Jay - Thank You for volunteering to help.  We will reach out shortly.
