NC-v4.1 MRc4:Material Ingredients

Clarification on Cradle to Cradle eligibility

Hi LEEDuser community,

I wanted to confirm my understanding of the distinction between the different option pathways for Cradle to Cradle certificates (bulleted below):

Option 1. Material Ingredient Reporting

Cradle to Cradle. Product has Material Health Certificate or is Cradle to Cradle Certified™ under standard version 3 or later with a Material Health achievement level at the Bronze level or higher.

  • Is this intended to mean that the Material Health Certificate can be for any achievement level under version 3 or later? This seems to match the requirement language for Material Ingredient Optimization entirely OR
  • Is this intended to mean that if a product has a Material Health Certificate under version 3 or later that this product qualifies for both Options 1 and 2?
  • Something else?

Option 2. Material Ingredient Optimization

Advanced Inventory and Assessment

Cradle to Cradle. Product has Material Health Certificate or is Cradle to Cradle Certified™ under standard version 3 or later with a Material Health achievement level at the Bronze level or higher.

  • Is this intended to mean that if a product has a Material Health Certificate under version 3 or later that this product qualifies for both Options 1 and 2?
  • Something else?

Sorry for the delay here! I hope this is still useful to you, Allan. Cradle to Cradle Full Certification and Material Health Certificate meet both Option 1 and 2 for this credit. For Option 2, the Full Certification or Material Health Certificate must be Bronze level or higher. If you have any further questions, please reach out to me: bergen@c2ccertified.org.

The 11.2020 addenda appears to have attempted to clarify the requirements for Option 2 that require all products pursuing Advanced Intentory & Assessment and Material Ingredient Optimization to be Third-Party verified. Can anyone confirm that products with Cradle to Cradle certifications meeting the requirements for report type and criteria ALSO meet the report verification requirement? i.e. in this case can we assume C2C to be the third-party verifier?

Summer, Cradle to Cradle certifications meet the requirements and are inherently 3rd party verified, so it will count without any additional documentation needs.
