CI-2009 SSc3.1:Credit Alternative Transportation—Public Transportation Access

Bus Instead of Shuttle

Our project is looking into using a mass transit center that is less than two miles from the project for this credit. However, there is a public bus stop on the street in front of our building, that within its regular route, goes to the transit center. It has frequent stops within the high traffic times of the day. My question is, can we use a bus that is located in front of our building that goes to a mass transit center, instead of a shuttle service we create?

Hi Rachel, LEED defines shuttles as point to point, so unless this public bus goes straight from your project to the mass transit center, it does not count under the LEED definition of a shuttle. However, since you are within two miles of the center it seems like you are still meeting the credit intent and thus should be able to show compliance here. I assume there is not a second public bus stop near your project you can use to show compliance via Option 2?
