I am working on a justice centre (court house) project here in Canada and am wondering which occupancy type to use. The closest building type listed in Appendix 2: Default Occupancy Counts would be a general office. However, there will definitely be transients coming to this building, so I don't think that would be fair.
Has anyone got any advice on how to determine the occupancy on this project? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tim, do you have any other existing court house projects you can pull assumptions from? I agree, general office does not seem to fit here. I would also try reaching out to GBCI and seeing if they can provide some estimates based on other projects of similar usage. Then you could prorate for difference in square footage.

Hi Marilyn, I have followed up with the CaGBC in regards to this concern and will update you on what their guidance suggests.

Any guidance come through for calculating FTEs / transients for courthouses? We're working on a courthouse project in Austin and would appreciate benefiting from any info that others have received. Thanks!
