NC-v4.1 MRc3:Sourcing of Raw Materials

Bonus for hyper-local sourcing

I have a question about the “bonus” for hyper-local sourcing.  The credit requirement now reads (with the highlight emphasis by me):

"For credit achievement calculation, products sourced (extracted, manufactured and purchased) within 100 miles (160 km) of the project site are valued at twice their base contributing cost, up to a maximum of 200% of cost or 2 products."

What the heck does the product count have to do with this?  The “or” bothers me, too.  What’s up with that?

Just want to point out that the v4.1 Reference Guide supplement completely ignores the "... or 2 products."

This weird "or 2 products" language also appears in the BPDO - Material Ingredients credit (MRc4) as well.  ...And doesn't appear in the Reference Guide Supplement for that credit, either. Depending on the outcome of this discussion, I'll post something in the Forum for MRc4.

Hi all, We have a LEEDv4 project with structural concrete that is about 85% regionally sourced and also has a percentage of recycled content. We may be upgrading the credit to v4.1 which removes the 30% cap on structural materials. Can we count that regional percentage proportionately? Or do products need to be 100% regional sourced only? To count the regional multiplier.  Thanks,

How does this point work? We have a product (steel) sourced 105 km from the project site.  Does this mean for this steel product, we will manually double the cost as we input in the calculator? Thanks!

If the product qualifies for the credit, enter the actual cost into the calculator and select "Yes" in the Locally Sourced column. The calculator will automatically add the extra value.

Has anyone challenged the 100% recycled criterion, especially in light of the reality that many products, such as rebar, cannot be manufactured from 100% recycled feedstock? This 100% recycled criterion dramatically limits products that have significant recycled content and just fall a bit shy of the 100% requirement by virtue of additives needed to hit the requisite performance attributes.
