BIO

Kim Shinn is a recovering physicist and professional mechanical engineer. He is a LEED Accredited Professional (BD+C specialty) and was elevated to LEED Fellow in 2011. There were 34 LEED Fellows selected in that inaugural group, and Kim is eternally grateful they didn't stop at 33. Kim helped author the Green Guide for Health Care (GGHC) and LEED for Healthcare, ASHRAE's Advanced Energy Design Guide for Large Hospitals, as well as ASHRAE Standards 135 “BACnet”, 209 “Energy Simulation Aided Design", and 228 ”Standard Method of Evaluating Zero Net Energy and Zero Net Carbon Building Performance"; and the updated AIA "Architect's Guide to Building Performance - Integrating simulation into the design process". Kim currently serves on the project management committee for ASHRAE's Hospital Decarbonization Design Guide, the steering committee of the Carbon Leadership Forum's MEP 2040 Challenge, as the green building engineer on the Technical Advisory Committee of the State of Tennessee’s Energy Efficient Schools Initiative, and as a member of the Nashville District Energy System Advisory Board.

Kim is a 1978 cum laude graduate of Texas Tech University with a BS degree in engineering physics and MS in mechanical engineering. When not simulating building performance, delivering presentations, or advising architects in how to stave off climate change, Kim likes to roam o'er hills and dales on his bicycle.
