Beta Testing

When will USGBC post the results of the LEED Beta Testing? Can they please post them in terms of number of hours spent per credit, success of achievement of each credit, relative cost of pursuing each credit and each system (as compared to LEED v2009) and any other relevant hard data that will help new clients get an idea of what they should expect. Thanks! Melissa

Melissa, I wouldn't hold your breath on this. I don't think the beta testing process is logging that kind of information (and would be major methodological hurdles to doing so). I hope that we at LEEDuser can provide some insights along these lines, but I think the beta testing is having more of an impact on LEED Online forms, and streamlining process things like that.

You may be able to go straight to the source and call someone who participated in the beta testing. There was a great forum on LEEDv4 beta testing at Greenbuild. Some of the speakers were Mika (Yagi) Kim from Gensler, and Theresa Lehman from Miron Construction.

Hi Kathryn, We called USGBC directly and were instructed to email them the question to LEED info@usgbc.org. We send the question almost 2 weeks since and are still waiting for the response. Ian

Ian - Are you sure you got an autoreply from USGBC with a Case #? Their website was having problems and e-mails to leedinfo@usgbc.org were not being received and assigned a case number in the queue. You might want to call Customer Service if you do not have a case number because your request will have to be resubmitted.

Hi again, Yes we got an auto reply with a case number. Any idea how long it takes to get a response from the LEEDinfo USGBC address?

They have been taking around 3 weeks. They're working on adopting more standards in addition to US standards. For example, you'll notice for IEQc5 they have a CEN standard for filtration efficiency. "Filtration media is Class F7 or higher, as defined by CEN Standard EN 779: 2002, Particulate air filters for general ventilation, Determination of the filtration performance." If you look on the www.usgbc.org/credits website they say "Projects outside the U.S. may use an alternative standard to ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2007 if it is approved by USGBC as an equivalent standard using the process identified in the LEED 2009 Green Building Design and Construction Global ACP Reference Guide Supplement." Have you read that?

Hi Kathryn, Yes, I have look at the Construction Global ACP Reference Guide Supplement for LEED 2009 and the credits in question (IEQc4.1,4.2,4.4) are not included. The new LEED V4 guide book clearly identifies on page 120 / 159 that following : “Projects outside the U.S. may use ... French legislation on VOC emission class labeling. For projects outside the U.S., all paints, coatings, adhesives, and sealants ... such as the European Decopaint Directive (2004/42/EC)". I would like to know is if these approved European directives are retroactive and can be applied in LEED 2009. I think I need to way another week or so until the USGBC gets around to answering thier e-mails. thanks,
