NC-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

Baseline Chilled water pumps - G3.1.3.10

Greetings, The standard states that the pump power must be 22 W/gpm. If the project has two chillers and primary secondary circuits, whereby there is on pump per chiller in the primary circuits and 5 pumps in the secondary. The question is: the 22 W/gpm are covering which power as per the above description? The similar question is valid also for G3.1.3.11 and G3.1.3.5. All opinions on the matter are highly appreciated. Thanks.

The number of chillers and pumping in the proposed case has nothing to do with the baseline. There is an ASHRAE interpretation - ASHRAE/IES IC 90.1-2007-14 - which indicates that the Baseline pump power of 22 W/gpm from Section G3.1.3.10 is inclusive of all baseline chilled water pumps. This ruling is confirmed by LEED Interpretation 10299. For G3.1.3.11 and G3.1.3.5 it is a moot point as there are only primary pumps for towers and boilers.
