Hello.
I’m dealing with the calculation method for the credits relative to EA section.
I don’t understand the meaning of the following sentence of paragraph G2.4 of ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA STANDARD 90.1-2007, Exception:
“Where on-site renewable or site-recovered sources are used, the baseline building performance shall be based on the energy source used as the backup energy source or on the use of electricity if no backup energy source has been specified.”
In particular, how is the “backup energy source” defined?

So for example suppose a building had a solar thermal system for service hot water. Typically those systems require a "back up" system since they are not typically designed to provide 100% of the service hot water load. So the "back up" system in this case would be whatever has been designed. In the Baseline model if it is gas then use gas, if electric then use electric, if there is no back up system use electric.
