NC-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

Average energy cost savings

Does anybody know what is the average of energy cost savings reported to LEED/USGBC? We are just wondering to compare all projects overall. Thanks

I saw this data several years ago but do not recall the average percentage. Not sure if USGBC is still tracking this but they probably are doing so. Based on our LEED Certification Review work (we have reviewed over 3000 or so energy models submitted for LEED) we would guess that it is about 20% to 25%.

When writing the Green Building Market and Impact Report for Greenbiz.com, I reviewed the certification scores for ~9500 projects and the average savings varied depending on the rating system and the vintage. For older buildings (V1-2.1), average savings was 24%, for V2.2 projects average savings were about 26.5% and for V3/2009 projects, average savings were 32%. Hope this helps. Thanks Rob I knew data was out there somewhere. Since this was written in 2011 I assume the number of LEED 2009 projects was relatively small at that time. I do not have the data but I would guess that the percentage savings has decrease somewhat for those projects since then. About 25% seems about right to me but it would be interesting to see the data from the past two or so years since this report.
