The ASHRAE Level II audit falls under Option 2 of the credit language. As long as the audit falls within the building performance period, it should work perfectly.

Hello,
Does it also mean that the energy audit has to be performed after the project has been registered?
In my case, the client would like to perform an energy audit before starting the certification process so they know how much they'd have to invest in energy saving measures and eventually decide if they pursue the certification or not.

There's no problem conducting the audit prior to registering the project. To be sure that the audit can contribute to the LEED certification, make sure that you plan to complete the LEED performance period within 2 years of the date that the audit is completed.

My apologies if this has already been addressed elsewhere, but with regard to recertification, may we assume that the LEED v4 process is the same, where if an audit is less than 5 years old, but greater than 2 years old, that it only needs to be updated? This was the guidance laid out for v2009 recertification, but is not addressed in the v4 reference guide under this credit specifically. Does an audit need to occur again if the performance period is fewer than 5 years? Is the LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance Recertification Guidance
Released October, 2013 still valid for a v4 to v4 recert? Any official guidance on this topic would be much appreciated! (although I'm probably the only person working on a v4 to v4 recert!)

Hi Levi,
I think when there's no updated or contradictory guidance in a v4 credit, GBCI will likely reference the 2013 Recertification Guidance for credit requirements and strategies that are substantially similar or the same between v2009 and v4.
