ASHRAE 2016

Hi All,

Has anyone dug into ASHRAE 2016 as part of the new v4.1 requirements or as codes start to adopt it? I recently presented on this and thought I should check my math to make sure I'm understanding and communicating this correctly.

My understanding is that there is a new reference baseline, that is essentially the ASHRAE 2004 baseline, and that everything now and going forward will be measured against that relative to the Building Performance Factor (BPF) that is listed in Table 4.2.1.1. So, in the 2016 version, for example, the regulated loads of an office building in climate zone 4a would have to be 42% reduced from that 2004 baseline (0.58 in the BPF Table). And that as ASHRAE improves each year, the baseline will remain the same but the BPF will get more stringent.

Is that how everyone else understands this? Is it also understood that the new standard baseline is 2004? That's not really stated explicitly anywhere.

Thanks!

Josh

That’s the way we read it, too.
