first post ever.. no doubt dumb questions (sorry). Any input much appreciated.
1) do kitchens in a condo development count as regularly occupied? bedrooms? what is the standard for this?
2) what rules do we use for area calculation (ex: BOMA, etc)?
3) anywhere I can see a sample LEED spreadsheet filled out for this credit?
4) im doing measurement option. I assume this can be done regardless of time of year, weather conditions, etc?

1. Yes,
2.Measurements taken on the inside surface of the wall. (Expand question if you need more)
3.I don;t know of specific site with an example but i do have a blank one.
4.Yes, but i would recommend under clear sky conditions at noon as close to the equinox as possible.

thanks! I do have more specific question regarding areas.
Within the kitchen area, the millwork area (with fridge, oven, counters, etc) - I am assuming these count towards the occupied space? On the one hand nobody can actually inhabit that space, but they would be using the work surface to cook, etc.

You can exclude the area in a kitchen where the refrigerator or other major appliances would be located. Measurements should be taken at workplane height so the counter top should be used.

Thanks very much. If you don't mind me asking, what is the reference for this? I believe you - just want to have a source so I don't have to cite an internet forum.

FYI, LEED users discussions do not set formal precedent for any credit.
The reference as to why kitchens must be included:Regularly occupied space matrix dated July 2012.http://www.usgbc.org/DisplayPage.aspx?CMSPageID=220.

I don;t have a specific source as to why you should exclude the area of major appliances other than it would not be considered regularly occupied. Having submitted quite a few credits myself along with some other experience, i have never used the area (mostly commercial kitchens) where the major appliances are located as regularly occupied space.
