Are you using the AIA COTE Top Ten Toolkit?

(posting here for Kira)

Sustainable Design Leaders:

Is your firm using the AIA COTE Top Ten Toolkit in some fashion? COTE would like to hear from you, especially if you are willing to share your story.

Specifically, we'd like to share best practices and lessons about how it is working (with certain types of projects, at certain points in your process, with clients, etc.).

We are keen to include snapshots from firms in all regions and at a range of scales (so you could feel free to recommend firms that you know but are not in the SDL).

Please reach out directly to me; I will be writing up these best practice stories: kiragould@kiragould.com

Thank you!

Thanks, Michelle. We've been utilizing these as a framework for our best practices. It's early yet, but I'll share what we can with Kira.

We're making a nice poster of the Framework with an emphasis on our firm's committment to it - to be displayed where our design staff will see it daily. Would be great if AIA distributed something that could be printed on 11x17 and posted in our offices.

We just did our second annual COTE Top Ten Pecha Kucha – a firmwide (multi-office/time zone) learning session where 10 studios each took a criterion and spent 5 minutes with project examples and information – really successful! Especially because 5 minutes is low pressure for presenting. In general, we are encouraging studios / teams to use the toolkit as a guide for early design thinking, with various different ways of doing so depending on the group and project type. We are also incorporating the Common App beta into our Project of the Year awards program – will report back on how that goes. Our local COTE committee organized a presentation about TTT for two recent local conferences – one sponsored by AIA Philadelphia (this fall) and one organized by our local GBC chapter (last spring). We did a similar approach – 5 of us each took two measures and spoke to the tool, the case studies etc. We think it was very well received (although extremely data-intensive). Looking forward to duplicating this in-house at our firm. Hey, SDL gang - just one more follow up question to the hive-mind -  Our local COTE group is preparing a follow-up presentation at which we're looking for case studies of how firms have integrated the toolkit - I know at the last summit I heard some anecdotal examples.  If any of you are willing to share a story - using it for internal awards, using it for benchmarking, using it for anything else it would be great.  We're working with a local university that is using the superspreadsheet in a studio project setting.   Please let me know if there's anything you can share!
