I noticed that three options are available for the energy performance credit:
1) whole-building energy simulation, 2) Prescriptive compliance: ASHRAE 50% Advanced Energy Design Guide, and 3) Prescriptive compliance: Advanced BuildingsTM Core PerformanceTM Guide.
The building that I am looking to get LEED certified is a fish scrap fertilizer plant so I was wondering, since option 2 only provides the ASHRAE 50% Design Guide for Small to Medium Office Buildings, for office buildings smaller than 100,000 square feet (9 290 square meters), large hospitals, schools, and retail buildings, would option 2 be an applicable option in the case of the fertilizer plant (which is more of a manufacturing environment)?

I don't think that either of the prescriptive options are applicable to your situation.

Okay. So the whole building energy simulation would be the most viable option?

It is probably the only option.
