Appendix G - Type of system

Hi, I have a doubt related to the type of system I should consider in a specific case. I'm working on a project where most of the bulding is served by one type of system. Based on this, I've defined the baseline system. There's a portion of the building which is neither served by the main system nor have an specific system specified. So, based on Table G3.1, item 10, the "cooling system shall be identical to the system modeled in the baseline building system". As the cooling system for this portion is independent of the main system, should I model another baseline system, based in the conditioned area, type of building and heating source? Thanks a lot. Luana

No. It should be the same system type as your original baseline system. If the HVAC system has not been designed for this area then the proposed is supposed to be identical to the baseline. You can only model secondary system types if one of the exceptions under G3.1.1 applies.

Hi Marcus, Thanks for your answer. The point is that the HVAC system hasn't been design and won't be designed by the owner. It is independent and tenants will design their own system. I've read the exceptions and they do not apply in my case. I was thinking, for example, if I had an area of 100 m2 that doesn't have the project and the baseline system for the whole bulding was a chiller plant, then for the proposed model, this 100 m2 area would be also served by a chiller plant? Isn't it strange? Thanks!

Appendix G has you do all kinds of strange things! So your proposed has no chiller plant I assume. You would need to model an auto-sized chiller (over-sized by 15%) identical to the baseline in the proposed for that space.

Hi Marcus, Ok. So, I'll consider an auto-sized chiller with the same efficiency as the baseline chiller. Thanks!
