Hello everyone,
I am working on a project in Italy for LEED BD+C V4 - Hospitality certification with a Campus Approach. The complex consists of six buildings, three of which will have apartments for hotel guests. Since these apartments are part of the hospitality context and intended for short stays, we believe the "Hospitality" option is applicable, as indicated in the protocol.
The client has requested not to install mechanical ventilation, which is compliant with Italian regulations, as these spaces are considered apartments.
I would like confirmation regarding the two options we are considering:
-
Alternative Compliance Path (ACP) - Europe ACP: Naturally Ventilated Spaces ID# 100002216 (2018)
This option requires the design for natural ventilation, a comparative study between natural and mechanical ventilation, and adherence to minimum ventilation areas (1.05 m² for every 10 m² of room area). As this is a prerequisite, I would like to know if it can be accepted by simply documenting what is required and integrating appropriate monitoring systems, in addition to complying with national regulations on openings.
If so, how should we register this option on "LEED Online"? Should the specifications be included in the Special Circumstances section? -
Standard Option for Naturally Ventilated Spaces
Alternatively, we could follow Chapter 6.4 of the ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2010, which allows the use of an engineered natural ventilation system, if approved by the authority having jurisdiction, without having to meet the requirements of Section 6.4.
In our project, we plan to use windows with an integrated automatic ventilation system, adjustable for air exchange control, equipped with sensors to monitor air quality and temperature, activating as needed to ensure energy efficiency and comfort.
I would like confirmation that an engineered natural ventilation system as described can exclude the need for mechanical ventilation, complying only with local standards regarding opening sizes, or if additional documentation is required.
Thank you for your support
