All Electric Labs: Cold Climate ready!

Morning SDL,

Working on a midwest lab and trying to make the case for electrification in a slower greening grid with a reluctant MEP team. Here are a few sources I have checked for case studies:

  • NBI Getting to Zero Database, doesn't have a Lab Category but does have cold weather examples
  • Labs 21, has low EUI and good data but no electrification field
  • I know BSA had put together some case studies when pushing for electrification policy but can't find it (pretty sure they had labs!)
  • Going to start spelunking in Zero Certifications for USGBC and LBC

Any intel appreciated for case studies! I have a sense they are a good engineering team but need to see to believe.

Many thanks,
Arathi Gowda

HI Arati, Not sure if it is what you were thinking of but there are some case studies in Massachusetts – Built Environment Plus put them together – updated this March. https://builtenvironmentplus.org/road-to-net-zero/ Kristen Kristen Fritsch AIA LEED AP BD+C WELL AP Sustainability Coordinator ELKUS MANFREDI ARCHITECTS [tel] 617.695.7954 [email] kfritsch@elkus-manfredi.com Fro

Kristen, Yes that was what I was remembering. THANK YOU!

Hi Arathi, What are you looking for exactly?  A list of lab buildings that are all-electric?  That would be an excellent resource.   I would love to help you gather that list.  I'm working on a white paper for I2SL.org about decarbonizing labs that could use that info.  Let me know if you want to team up. Great! There are quite a few labs in that study. Boston seems to only be building lab/offices currently. On the research tab of the BE+ website there are a lot of great other resources regarding net zero too. (And apologies for misspelling your name, Arathi!)
