NC-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

Air cooled chillers and other air cooled equipment.

Question: If I have an air cooled chiller selected at non-ARI conditions that has a full load efficiency of 3.0 COP, does it comply with the minimum efficiency requirement of 2.8 COP from ASHRAE - 90.1, or does it have to be re-selected at 44 leaving water, 95 condensing air temp, and 2.4 gpm/ton? How about other air-cooled equipment and cooling towers?

The minimum efficiency requirements are at the test conditions for all the equipment. If the manufacturer cannot supply the performance at the test conditions you will need to make the case that your equipment complies.

We also has this difficulty, as our project is at Asia,. When contacted the international chiller manufacturer, their local assembly chiller does not go for ARI testing, but those in US are. Is not commercially wise to import these equipment across to our project here. We able to find local assembly chiller which has equivalent COP as in ASHRAE requirement but not ARI Tested. Can the manufacturer test report help us to meet EAP2 requirement?

I would most certainly enlist the manufacturer to help you document efficiency compliance. Perhaps the chiller curve could be used to help demonstrate compliance?
