AIA Material Pledge - reporting

Hello all,

Our firm recently signed onto the Material Pledge and while there is no reporting requirements at this time we are wondering how other architectural firms are, or plan to, report projects.

Thanks for any insight that can be shared!

It's not necessarily a reporting framework, but every other year we go through our specs and make sure we're updated to the latest greatest state of the market on EPDs and material ingredient reporting across our basis of design products. We're also working on tracking the percentage of finish materials we spec that have that kind of transparency reporting. In the absence of real reporting requirements from the program, these steps made the most sense to us to make a good faith effort toward the commitment we made in signing on. Aley

Congrats to you and your team for signing onto the framework! We have developed a Healthy Materials Selection Protocol based on the pledge. Feel free to read more about what we are doing here: https://www.gobeyondwithus.com/about

I remember when this pledge rolled out a few years back, AIA had a working group for signatories. Does that still exist? I feel like many of us are working independently on material health, carbon, and transparency and there are many industry resources & groups for that - but as we move into the human rights and equity categories it will be vital to share resources & make requests to manufacturers as a group. Hi All - It's great timing to see this conversation pop up. The AIA Materials Pledge Working Group is currently working hard on metrics and reporting to be added to the AIA DDx (hopefully in time for reporting in 2025). This group is top of our list to get feedback from as soon as we have working drafts early next year. In the meantime, you can get a high level preview by looking at my slideshow from Greenbuild Show and Tell.  buildinggreen.com/forum/greenbuild-show-tell-2023-presentations  For more collaboration on holistically sustainable materials, I encourage everyone to join the conversation at mindful MATERIALS. More to come. Feel free to reach out to me if you want to discuss the Pledge and the work around turning these aspirations into actions.  Best, Lona
