Adding SMEs (BITuser experts)

Southface will need a procedure for adding and assigning SMEs to the BITuser site. Normally you could just create the user in BITuser and assign the role right there, but we have the added complication of Salesforce SSO, which means the sequence will have a few extra steps.

Here's the basic outline:

  1. Create an account for the SME on Salesforce.
  2. Log into Salesforce as that user, and then go to the BITuser site.
  3. This will automatically create a linked account for them on Drupal.
  4. Log out of the BITuser site and log in using your editor account.
  5. Follow the instructions for adding the "BITuser expert" role to that user and assigning them to the appropriate Best Practices.

Shane/Dennis: Do your editors have the ability to create users in Salesforce? If so, you should provide those instructions to them, and then I can provide the details of what will need to happen on the BITuser side.

Yes, we will be creating users and activating licenses manually in Salesforce, although as I was following your directions above, I discovered that I no longer have access to my BIT Editor account.  It appears that during SSO testing, it changed my profile from an Editor to a Public profile.  Is that possible?

Dennis, this was due to the original editor accounts created for you in drupal had drupal generated usernames instead of the email address being used for the username, which is required for the SSO to sync accounts properly with Salesforce. I updated all of the existing editors accounts so they should now map properly. Please try again and let me know if you still have any problems.

I'm back into the admin account but I cannot find how to add a "BITUser Expert" role to a user and cannot find the instructions.

I haven't actually written the instructions yet, since we are currently in the process of tweaking the User Profile tools. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Dennis, I added instructions for assigning the expert role to individual users, and then for assigning an expert to a specific best practice: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EUIzitkW0CczFQo8V2q3gVDVO4Juk4EI9iv8fH4_3NM/edit# Note that I don't have a placeholder photo for users who haven't uploaded an avatar, so you'll see a broken image link until a photo is added to that user's account. Awesome!  This is great.  I tested it out and was able to make the adjustments to our internal beta testers and changed them to BIT Experts. In regard to the profile picture, and maybe this is a question for Ben as well, it would be more efficient if we could map their Salesforce profile picture to their BITUser profile picture.  The profile image stored in the Salesforce BIT Community is public so it may be possible to do it through the url by adding their Salesforce user profile id below through the SSO.

The url for our test account profile picure is:
Thoughts?

Sorry, wrong url. The url for the test account is User: bitbuilding@southface.org Profile Image: https://southfacecommunities.force.com/BITBuilding/profilephoto/7290B000000YxwN/M

Dennis, Are you able to add the profile image field as a custom attribute that is passed during SSO like first name, last name, company, and role?

Maybe.  I added a Photo Image field as a custom attribute, although it is not pulling in the correct parameters. Thought I could do it quickly, but it looks like it is going to take a little bit of digging to get the correct id link from the community.  I'll keep you posted.
