Adding more projects to a Campus

I completed the campus documentation for a project involving three projects, two different versions of LEED, and two different LEED consultants.

The solution was for make sure the campus documentation meet the requirements of the two different versions of LEED. I would expect you would have to do something similar. Two projects were certified long before the third one was. That project benefited by not having to document any of the campus credits.

So, your approach should be similar except you do not know about the future projects. Complete the individual projects that fit approved campus credits. Then contact the GBCI regarding future projects that might fall under different ratings systems, and versions. The GBCI should be able to let you know how to proceed. Part of that will likely be adjusting the approved credits so they can be used by the future projects.

With the project I did the adjustments to fit two version of LEED for the campus credits was not too difficult. LEED has a lot of carryover of requirements which is beneficial.

To clarify, Master Site is complete and reviewed. Three projects certified using that Master Site and the credits anticipated. We need to add four more projects--same version as Master Site. No one seems to know how to add them. GBCI did not give clear guidance of how to add projects. Seems it should be simple.

Kath — Contact the GBCI and ask them to link the new projects to the Master Site. It should be easier since your projects are the same version of LEED. The GBCI was able to link projects that could used a Master Site (LEED v2009) to projects that could not (LEED v2).

The answer to Deborah's original question is a qualified Yes. Campus credits would have been awarded to your master site based on the build-out that you envisioned when you submitted it for review. If additional structures and amenities are to be added to the master site, you would need to determine the impact of those additions to the awarded campus credits. If master site reviews have been completed, such impacts would have to be presented through the appeal process. Alternatively, the project team might decide to not claim certain campus impacted campus credits, opting to pursue the credits through the individual project. You would also want to confirm that commitments made in the master site - open space or habitat protection, for instance - are not degraded by the additional buildings and amenities. Of course, the Version 3 (2009) registration sunset might bring another important factor into your thinking. If your master site is in Version 3, some of the campus credits might not meet Version 4 credit requirements. It may be necessary to register and document a Version 4 master site to contribute campus credits to a Version 4 building project. Kath and Hernando, the answer might not be as simple as associating the projects. It will depend on the vintage of the master site. For older master sites registered in a block, it can be a matter of saying 'This project is in that master site'. But for newer master sites registered in a campus, the child projects must be registered through the master site. And we run into the issue of v3 registration being closed.
