NC-v4 EAp2:Minimum energy performance

50% of Receptable Controls to meet the Prerequisite

We are working on a project where it was missed during equipment procurement that open office furniture is required to have 50% of the receptacles controlled to meet the prerequisite under 90.1-2010 Section 8.4.2. We understand that LEED Interpretation 10462 (https://www.usgbc.org/leedaddenda/10462) does allow this mandatory prerequisite to be excepted with penalties to the proposed model receptacle power density or receptacle Equivalent Full Load Hours of Operation.

Does anyone have experience with following this path and what USGBC Reviewers typically want to see as documentation? Our project has a portion of receptacles controlled but it varies by floor and area. We are prepared to submit the weighted average across the building as a single proportional change to the proposed model’s receptacle power density.

Yes, we have used that interpretation successfully multiple times. Just make sure to document what spaces require the control and that aligns with where you have modeled the penalty.
