Hello all, excuse the blast and the short timeline -- while not explicity sustainability-related, this is a great way to connect with the future of the profession, and can be a great opportunity for SDL firms on the west coast (a number of SDL firms already participate), specifically in Tacoma, Olympia, San Francisco, Sacramento, or San Diego. The note below is from Becky Roberts at Miller Hull; please read the attached PDF and reach out to her directly (rroberts@MillerHull.com) by March 31 if interested to hear more.
Cheers,
Myer
I’m writing on behalf of the UW Master of Architecture Student Internship Program. Many of you or your firm colleagues have received individual outreach about participation this summer. This program, which the ArchPAC established in 2010, provides 3-year M.Arch students with supervised, paid summer employment in architecture and building industry workplaces to supplement their academic studies.
We extend our appreciation to those workplaces who have already committed to hosting internship positions this summer. The pandemic has challenged the Internship Program in recent years. In 2020 and 2021, ArchPAC firms were able to offer internships to only half of participating students. For 2022, we are asking ArchPAC members to renew their commitment to the Internship Program and help us place each eligible student with a workplace opportunity this summer.
Internships can either use remote work arrangements or be in-person, depending on policies and comfort level of the firm and the student. In 2020 and 2021, almost all internships were successfully completed remotely, demonstrating that this is a viable option. Typically, interns complete a minimum 320+ hours (8 weeks) of paid work, beginning shortly after the Spring Quarter ends in mid-June. I have attached an Internship Intro document with additional information for review, and a Workplace Profile form for participating firms to complete.
Several students have expressed readiness to working in locations beyond Seattle. If you have professional contacts in Tacoma, Olympia, San Francisco, Sacramento, or San Diego, please reach out to them about hosting a paid intern this summer & feel free to connect them with a committee member for more information.
Contact any committee member if your workplace is able to commit to the program for 2022, are interested but need additional time before committing, or have additional questions. We hope to finalize participating firms by March 31. Matches will be made by Architecture Department Faculty members in April, and we anticipate hosting students and firm representatives at a virtual kick-off event in mid to late May.
