Folks -anyone know if the 179D Commercial Buildings Energy Efficiency Tax Credit will be renewed for this year? The DOE website only references renewal on Jan 1, 2017... I am not holding my breath, but curious if anyone else has heard one way or the other. Thanks!

Rachel: I was just on an AIA COTE Advocacy call. AIA staff is tracking a bill (HR 3051) filed by Rep. Van Drew (D, NJ) that would extend 179D through the end of 2020 - I think. It has been referred to House Ways & Means. AIA has signed on as an endorsing organization. We'd like to see a longer extension - or for 179D to be made permanent - but this is the bill that's moving. - MD
Thank you Michael. Not the permanency we need, but an extension is better than a deletion so i'll take it!
Our 179D consultant and accountant are both advising us not to count on 179D for 2018 or 2019. If it gets back into a bill and is passed by congress, we can go back and re-file if it makes sense.
What is interesting is that in January when it was in a bill and looked promising, we received multiple calls a week from consultants wanting to provide 179D services, 99% guarantee that it was happening, and we needed to be ahead of it!…those calls stopped abruptly when it was pulled from the legislation.

Here's a link to HR 3051: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/3051/text?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22hr+3051%22%5D%7D&r=1&s=1
(it extends 179D two years, through 12/31/2019, if passed)
