I was informed that the LEED project in question has 1 charging station and two reserved parking spots. Am I to assume that this station has two charging cables, one for each spot, or should I verify that with the installer? Also, when it comes to "Vehicle Fueling Capacity per Station", does that mean the number of parking spots that will benefit from this single charging station (which would be 2)?

Hi Edgar, I would recommend verifying that the charger does in fact serve both spaces - it's a reasonable assumption but good to check if you're not sure. And you will need the model name/number for the LEED documentation, which should tell you the number of cables. The Vehicle Fueling Capacity number does not mean the number of cables, it means the number of cars that can charge in an 8-hour period. For a fast charger that's typically 2, so some models of charger will count double for the purpose of the credit.

Thanks for the reply, Emily. Yes, after reviewing the cutsheet, this station does have two cables for both spaces. Going back to the second part regarding how many cars can charge in an 8-hour period, in your example you said a fast charger could recharge an electric car in typically 2 hours. Now based on the 8-hour criteria from LEED, would that mean the Vehicle Fueling Capacity for that charging station is 8, considering 4 vehicles per cable (8 hours / 2 hours) and two cables (4 vehicles x 2 spaces or cables)?

So in a project where you had one fast charger with two cables, the LEED form would look like this:
Number of charging stations: 2 (meaning, two cars can be plugged in at once)
Vehicle fueling capacity per station: 2 (meaning, in an 8-hour period, a single cable can fully charge two cars)
I hope that makes it clear!

It does, thank you so much. And thanks for clearing up that each cable counts as one charging station.

Actually, I do have an additional question. How do we determine how many vehicles can be charged within an 8-hour period if electric vehicles have different battery capacities and different kW acceptance rates?
