USGBC has opened the second public comment period on LEED 2012, the next version of the LEED rating systems. This public comment period is scheduled to run from August 1st to Sept. 14th.

As with the first public comment period, which opened in Nov. 2011, LEEDuser is here to provide guidance on key changes to LEED 2012 certification, and to provide an open forum for members of the LEED community to understand the changes and weigh in on them.

Parking garages are specifically excluded from eligibility for LEED certification, as of a LEED Interpretation issued on May 9, 2011.

News on this has been trickling out for a little while now, but I wanted to put up an official information announcement here on LEEDuser: parking garages are specifically excluded from eligibility for LEED certification, as of a

Precedent-setting CIRs are back! Well, sort of...

Update: The LEED Interpretations database was moved and relaunched in April 2013. Its new location is Update: The LEED Interpretations database was upgraded in Oct. 2011.

Here is a review of key LEED 2009 addenda to date. The following covers BD&C systems: NC, CS, and Schools.

Update! See our ongoing coverage of LEED Interpretations and addenda here.

Last month USGBC issued a memo opening a new path to LEED points for professionals with green building credentials other than the LEED AP (LEED Accredited Professional) credential.

Last month USGBC issued IDc2 (IOc2 in EBOM), the new path is part of IDc1: Innovation in Design.

Filed February 7th, 2011, the amended complaint has been boiled down to a claim of false advertising, and is no longer a class-action suit.

From LEEDuser's sister publication Environmental Building News:

USGBC has launched a new program aimed at larger LEED customers—building owners and property managers certifying 25 or more LEED projects within a three-year window.

The LEED Volume Program, launched at Greenbuild 2010, is designed for government, education, real estate organizations, retailers, and the hospitality industry. The fledgling program has already engaged eight organizations, according to USGBC.

“LEED Automation,” the beginning of a new model for LEED documentation and reporting

With a new initiative called “LEED Automation,” the U.S. Green Building Council has announced the beginning of a new model for LEED documentation and reporting. Currently, teams submit LEED project data for review by entering it into the LEED Online website. LEED Automation makes it possible to collect that data in third-party applications and upload it for review without going through the LEED Online interface. “The world of LEED execution just got faster, better, and cheaper,” promised Mike Opitz, USGBC’s vice president for LEED, at a Greenbuild 2010 session.

I spoke with USGBC's Corey Enck to understand the proposal a bit better.

Among the key changes coming down the road for LEED, as I recently wrote about (Your Guide to the New Draft of LEED), is a change to the LEED AP credit, formerly IDc2, now dubbed IPc2 (that's "Integrated Process" credit 2).

USGBC staff will be monitoring this forum, and we will submit all comments on the new LEED draft as public comments, on your behalf.

Update: Learn about the LEED 2012 3rd public comment period, March 1–20, 2012.

USGBC has released complete revisions of its LEED rating systems, and has opened a first public comment period, going from Nov. 8 to Jan. 14, 2011 (extended from Dec. 31, 2010).

A process for precedent-setting rulings for project teams using the LEED rating system is under development at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The resulting “LEED Interpretations” process is to be unveiled in the Fall of 2010.

We'd been expecting something like this for a while—it's great to see that it's on the way.
