Bicycle Facilities

The cost of this credit is site-specific.

Bicycle Network

This credit requires projects to be located within walking or bicycling distance from a developed bicycle network. Outside of urban areas, the presence of bicycling networks is very site-specific, with cost and feasibility implications not quantifiable within the scope of this study.

Access to Quality Transit

The cost of this credit is site-specific.

Credit compliance is usually a result of site selection and typically has no cost implications, unless a project includes associated development of public transit. Site selection serves
as a basis for site design and sets the stage for interactions with the neighborhood and region. There are potential economic synergies with all other strategies related to site properties.

Daylight

Daylight design is an involved, continual process which connects a project from conceptual design through construction, requiring the coordination of the architect, interior designer, mechanical engineer, specification writer, and contractor.

Quality Views

The cost of this credit is project-specific.
Having access to views depends on location and building form. The geometry of a project (such as a shallower floor plate) can increase access to views. Urban core, zero-lot-line projects often have more difficulty with this strategy than suburban or rural projects. However, there are also interior design considerations that any project can use, such as the use of transparent interior partitions to allow views through the walls of offices and conference rooms.

Acoustic Performance

The cost of this credit is project-specific.
Whether a project faces a cost premium to earn this credit depends on the project type and other project-specific attributes.
Healthcare facilities and schools are more likely to have to meet similar requirements anyway, and therefore are less likely to face a cost premium to do this for LEED. Also, while this credit is new to LEED-NC, it has been part of LEED for Healthcare and LEED for Schools for several years, giving teams in those project areas experience on achieving it cost- effectively.

Fundamental Refrigerant Management and Enhanced Refrigerant Management

Cost of the Prerequisite

Projects must not use CFC-based refrigerants (R-11 and R-12) or must commit to replacing existing equipment with new, non-CFC equipment.

Commercial production of R-11 and R-12 refrigerants stopped in 2010, so for new projects, or projects using new cooling equipment, compliance with the prerequisite will have no added costs.

If you already use automatic interior lighting controls in your building:

Confirm that the schedule of operations is set to automatically turn off non-emergency fixtures in each interior lighting zone for the requisite 2,190 hours per year—or 50% of annual nighttime hours.
Develop a preventive maintenance program to regularly inspect and adjust the automatic controls to ensure proper operation.
