Many of this option’s compliance documents are common to other LEED credits or design documents, thus reducing duplicated efforts.
During LEED submission, your project team needs to make an extra effort to support the credit with the completed checklist and the required documents. Although not every requirement may be mentioned in the LEED documentation, the supporting documents need to cover all requirements with narratives, wall sections, mechanical drawings, and calculations.
The baseline exterior lighting power allowance (ELPA) may not take credit for any category which does not have any lighting fixtures in the proposed building, or for any area or width within any category which is not lit in the proposed building, even within the tradable categories. In addition, the lighting for a single building component cannot be counted within two separate categories in the baseline ELPA calculations.
Option 4: Since this option was added in April 2010, after the LEED Online credit form was finalized, it is not currently mentioned on the form. Document this option using the alternative compliance path instead of one of the standard paths.
Different building types call for different calculations under this credit—make sure you’re using the proper variables for your building type. Residential project teams should also keep in mind that bike storage facilities must be covered—which is not part of the credit requirements for other building types—and that this will impact building design.
Be sure to specifically address all of the following issues in your comprehensive green cleaning document:
hand hygiene strategies
handling of occupant feedback
staffing plans
use of dilution systems.
Other rating sytems such as LEED-EBOM can be a great resource for ideas for innovation credits. (See LEEDuser's list of LEED-EBOM credits and associated guidance.) When adapting these credits, it may be appropriate to meld the requirements to fit your rating system. For example, if pursuing LEED-EBOM MRc4: Reduced Mercury in Lamps, you would not in a design and construction rating system be required to document the solid waste management strategy which is a part of that credit, which is operations-focused.
Follow specific maintenance practices for the carpet products used. Follow a green cleaning and maintenance policy that limits products with VOCs and other indoor pollutants.
Keep a list of compliant carpet systems used on the project so that O&M staff can use these products for future renovations.
