For companies that provide vehicles for employee use, consider “greening your fleet” by purchasing vehicles qualified as low-emitting and fuel-efficient. Project teams should carefully consider available technologies and different fuel sources before purchasing vehicles.

Allowing adequate lead time is important in this option, as alternate-fuel vehicles may take longer to order and purchase. Communicate with procurement officers as early as possible in the planning process.

Simple electrical outlets do not constitute vehicle-charging stations. Electrical charging stations have distinct hardware for vehicle charging. If providing electrical vehicles for the fleet, these charging stations should be available to those vehicles.

Consider whether one or both paths to earning points under this  credit are suitable for your project:

Innovation in Design: Use an innovative approach to something not already covered in the LEED rating system. This approach must represent and innovative design approach to a problem, must be comprehensive in scope, and must have a quantifiable environmental benefit. Approach this path as if you were creating a new LEED “ID credit” from scratch.

Exemplary Performance: Go well beyond the performance thresholds of existing LEED credits.

Fill out the LEED submittal template and upload all supporting documents to LEED Online.

For naturally ventilated spaces, confirm compliance with the requirements of ASHRAE 62.1-2004 section 5.1.

For mechanically ventilated spaces, run ventilation calculations to verify that the final design meets the minimum outside air rates equal to or exceeding the ASHRAE 62.1-2004 minimum.
