NC-v4.1 MRc2:Environmental Product Declarations

One LCA Action Plan covers multiple products. Can this be accepted?

Hi All,

I’d like to ask about LCA optimization. if a manufacturer provides a single LCA Action Plan document that covers six (6) of their products, and the valuation is 1/2 product per LCA Action Plan, can this be counted as 1/2 × 6 = 3 product valuation?

For Shwewin-Williams products, we have successfully used a single LCA action plan that covers eligible product in series. The plan covers all eligible products series; therfore, it can be used for multiple products listed in that specific series. If single LCA action plan covers such different products, it can be counted for multiple valuation.

We have also seen reviewers accept different sheens of Sherwin Williams.  If the chemical formulation is meaningfully different, it can count as a separate product.  A flat has a different formulation than a primer.  However, if you have two carpets, different colorways, and both have the same yarn and backing, that counts as only 1 product for EPDs/optimized EPDs.

usually yes — but only if each product is clearly and independently covered in the LCA Action Plan.
