My project has a balcony that projects away from the building, and does not provide a roof to an enclosed space for the building. How should the balcony be treated for this credit?

The client is close to getting the credit and wondered if painting the units on the roof would help.  I think it does from a heat island effect, but not from a LEED Credit point of view.  Is it possible to get any credit from a LEED perspective for light colored roof  mounted mechanicals?
