Historical building and Existing building part of connected structure

I have courthouse project that involves two existing buildings being connected with a newly constructed third building.  Since one of the existing buildings connected to the third one is classified as a historical building, do I even have a shot at complying with this credit under the Option 1: Historic Building Reuse even though that historic building is not gonna be physically connected into a bigger project.  If not, would the only other way be to follow Option 3: Building and Material Reuse and incorporate the historic building and the other existing building into the calculations?
