Has anyone come across a scenario where the general contractor is required to contract for the functional testing of the building envelope commissioning, where the hired BECx simply "observes" the building envelope functional testing? If the general contractor contracts for the functional testing of the building envelope, is this a conflict of interest?

Hi Theresa, I have been involved with projects where the Building Envelope Commissioning Provider (BECxP) did not perform the envelope testing, but rather witnessed the testing. The general contractor hired an entity to perform the testing while the BECxP witnessed and reported findings directly to the owner. This was accepted by GBCI.
Good Luck!
