In Japan, under the leadership of the Japanese government (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism), the J-CAT tool, which calculates whole-life carbon emissions (targeting GHG emissions) for buildings, has been made publicly available for free and is becoming widely adopted. Considering this situation, it is desirable to use J-CAT for the assessment and quantification of embodied carbon, at least for projects within Japan, so that many companies, including small and medium-sized enterprises, can engage in embodied carbon calculation and evaluation of buildings.
