I have comments returned from the reviewer that the products we are using to clai Option 2 do not have a complete Life Cycle Impact Reduction Action Plan. The EPDs have been provided under Option 1, and they all include a section on Life Cycle Assessment, including third party review and sign-off. What am I missing here? Is there a list or resource anywhere that shows which companies have products that comply with this ridiculous Option 2 standard? Thanks

Brian, Hi.
Achieving Option 2 under v4.1 for EPD's is not easy, but it is possible as the number of manufacturers addressing the criteria is growing. I believe the issue is that Option 2 requires having a compliant optimizarion report or Action Plan separate from the (standard) EPD or LCA. The gist is that an Optimization report will show reductions in emodied carbon and GWP for the product as compared to a previously conducted (product specific) LCA or EPD. A compliant Action Plan is an "entry level" document that rewards initial first steps towards lowering impacts for manufacturers who may not have the comparable life cyle data needed to do a full Optimization (hence they are only worth 1/2 product towards achievement). Please note that Action Plans have a series of required components and Optimization reports must be third party verified and are valued between 1-2 products depending upon the level of impact reductions. I would suggest reading through the "Step-byStep" and "Further Explanations" in the v4.1 Guide. There are database sites such as UL, Sustainable Minds and Greencircle that allow you to search for products with compliant reporting- but please note these are only a few sources and it is worth searching. You can find a good example of an Optimization report (this on is an Owens Corning product): https://dcpd6wotaa0mb.cloudfront.net/mdms/dms/Shared/10025129/102.1_EPD_Optimization_Summary_Addendum_Thermafiber-Formaldehyde-Free-Mineral-Wool.pdf?v=1641385582000 Hope this helps.
