If by "counts as green area for open spaces" you are talking about the requirement "A minimum of 25% of that outdoor space must be vegetated" - I have no data that it can be counted so. There is no explicit explanation, that vertical gardening can count tovard horizontal requirement (credit targeted on plane area of the project and calculationa are made based on "Total site area" in which green walls are not included).
Still, green wall can count at the credit as a compliant outdoor space: "garden space with a diversity of vegetation types and species that provide opportunities for year-round visual interest".
If someone has any data that vertical vegetation counts tovard horizontal areas per this credit - please share!
