Hello everyone, I am currently working on a building where renovations are taking place, transforming a portion of the building from office space to residential units (now 100% residential). The apartments are equipped with two exhaust fans (one in the bathroom and another in the kitchen). The bathroom exhaust will operate continuously at a rate of 4.17 l/s, and it can be increased to 11.11 l/s using a switch to meet the bathroom extraction requirement. On the other hand, the kitchen will have an intermittent exhaust fan activated by an on/off switch (16.67 l/s).
It's worth noting that the continuous 4.17 l/s extraction in the bathroom is intended to facilitate air intake into the apartment through the windows. The individual ventilation requirement (OA) for each apartment, based on ASHRAE 62.2-2010, is approximately 9 l/s. Based on this, I have two questions:
- Is it possible to justify that the combined extraction flows from the kitchen and the bathroom will fulfill the apartment's ventilation needs, or is it necessary for the kitchen extraction flow to be continuous?
- According to ASHRAE 62.2-2010, the extraction flow rate for a continuous fan should be 10 l/s. In this case, would I be non-compliant by providing a continuous injection of 4.17 l/s and 11.11 l/s during occupancy periods?

Note: 2nd question is related with exhaust rates for bathrooms
